James Walter Braddock was an American boxer who was the world heavyweight champion from 1935 to 1937. Fighting under the name James J. Braddock, Braddock was known for his spoiling, counterpunching style, powerful right hand, and his iron chin.

James J. Braddock was nicknamed “Cinderella Man” by sportswriter Damon Runyon because of his rags-to-riches story and his unlikely victory over Max Baer for the heavyweight championship in 1935.
